About this video

North Alabama head coach Mark Hudspeth runs the Shotgun Zone Triple Option, and the quick passing game is how he gets the football to his best athletes in space. In this session he demonstrates the quick throws that out-leverage a defense, forcing defenders into open field tackles and turning a numbers or leverage advantage into easy yards. It is a relatively safe way to get touches for the players you want touching the ball.

What you'll learn

  • The strategy behind bubbles and Spots, the quick throws Coach Hudspeth uses to take what the defense gives
  • The Outside Zone/Bubble play with individual blocking responsibilities laid out
  • The Dart/Counter/Power Bubble play and how the quick throw attaches to the run
  • Spot Pass plays with individual player assignments for every skill position
  • How to count and take advantage of numbers before the snap with your quick throws
  • Creating mismatches and leverage situations that let receivers work in space
  • Extensive game film of the quick passing game against live defenses

Who it's for

Built for high school and college offensive coordinators, head coaches and receivers coaches. The quick throws attach to zone and gap run plays, so they fit any shotgun offense, not just the triple option.

About the coach

Mark Hudspeth was the head coach at the University of North Alabama, where his Lions ran the Shotgun Zone Triple Option and put together the best record of any college program in the state of Alabama over a five-season stretch.

The session makes extensive use of game film. Runtime: about 43 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

What throws are in this video?

The quick game Coach Hudspeth attaches to his run schemes - bubbles and Spots - shown through the Outside Zone/Bubble play, the Dart/Counter/Power Bubble play and a set of Spot Pass plays, all with individual assignments.

Do I have to run the triple option to use it?

No. North Alabama ran the Shotgun Zone Triple Option, but the quick throws tag onto outside zone, dart, counter and power, so any high school or college shotgun offense can take them.

How do I watch it?

It streams the moment you buy it. $19.95 puts it in your AFM Videos account for unlimited viewing on any device, and it stays there. The 1-Year All Access membership ($99) includes this title along with every video AFM streams.

What is the point of the quick passing game here?

As Coach Hudspeth puts it, the quick passing game lets the quarterback get the ball to the wide receivers in space so the offense can cash in a mismatch, a numbers situation or a good leverage situation - a safe way to get touches for your best athletes.
