About this system

The Shotgun Zone Fly is a run-oriented offense that combines the traditional fly sweep, inside zone and shotgun spread concepts. By putting the quarterback, a wide receiver and the running back all into the run game, it keeps a three-back threat on almost every play while still spreading the field — and because most formations use two tight ends, it gets an extra blocker to the point of attack. The manual states the aim plainly: force the defense to play sideline to sideline, while you play goal line to goal line.

This is Head Coach Bryon Hamilton's own 55-page installation manual, the complete system as his staff taught it. An instant PDF download.

What's inside

  • The system and its language — points of emphasis and a glossary that runs through the whole book: Track, Mesh, Reach and Base blocking, and the colour calls (Red = inside zone, Green = outside zone, Black = down block and off-tackle track)
  • Play calling and cadence
  • The mesh — landmarks and key coaching points, the exchange the whole offense is built on
  • Formations — the full formation family with alignment rules
  • The run game — offensive line rules, the Fly Sweep, Inside Zone (Red), Tackle Pull with the QB read, Trap, Power G, Belly G (Black), plus auxiliary runs
  • The passing game — Waggle, Delta, Smash, the Delay combination, Vertical, Under, the Dart Screen and Fade
  • Game planning — how the staff builds the weekly plan, and concluding thoughts

Plays are laid out the way a coach installs them: ball carriers, play-side and back-side assignments position by position, then the diagram.

Who it is for

Head coaches and offensive coordinators who want to install the Shotgun Zone Fly, and position coaches who need their players' assignments on every play. It suits a staff looking to keep a power run game while spreading the field, and it pairs directly with Coach Hamilton's video series on the same offense.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly do I get?

One PDF, 55 pages, delivered instantly in your AFM Videos account. It is a scan of the original printed manual with a searchable text layer added, so you can search it on any device or print it for your staff.

What is the Shotgun Zone Fly?

A run-first offense built from the fly sweep, inside zone and shotgun spread. The quarterback, the sweeper and the back are all run threats, most formations carry two tight ends, and motion and formation are used to win the numbers at the point of attack.

Is this the same as the video series?

No — this is the written install manual. Coach Hamilton's Shotgun Zone Fly videos are sold separately and cover the same offense on tape; the manual is what you install from and hand to your staff.

What level is it for?

It was written and used at high school level, and the install order, assignments and game-planning sections carry to any staff running a spread run game.

How do I get it after I order?

Instantly. Sign in to your AFM Videos account and open My Library, or use the link in your receipt email.

Is it included in the streaming membership?

No. Systems are sold separately from the video streaming membership, and once purchased it stays in your account.
