About this video

Misdirection is one half of Ricky Woods' I offense; the option game is the other. Woods' reasoning is simple - if you have the personnel to run the misdirection, you have the personnel to run the option. In this session the high school coaching legend outlines the option package he ran from the I formation, play by play, with the rule blocks that make each call work against whatever front the defense lines up in.

What you'll learn

  • How the option game complements the misdirection series in the I offense
  • 42 Bingo and its place in the option package
  • The Midline option from I formation sets
  • The Trap Option and the backfield action behind it
  • The rule blocks that tie the option plays together
  • Why the same personnel that runs your misdirection can run this option game

Who it's for

High school and college offensive coordinators and head coaches running the I formation or any two-back offense looking to add an option element without changing personnel.

About the coach

Ricky Woods compiled a 213-43 high school record with six state and 13 district championships. His five seasons at South Panola High School (MS) produced a 74-1 record, a 60-game winning streak and four consecutive state championships, and he went on to be head coach at NW Mississippi Community College.

The session makes extensive use of game film.

Frequently asked questions

Which option plays does Woods teach?

42 Bingo, the Midline, and the Trap Option, plus the rule blocks that make the package function against different defensive fronts.

Do I need option personnel to run this?

Woods argues you already have them - his point is that any team with the players to run I formation misdirection has the players to run this option game. It suits high school and small-college two-back offenses.

How does the streaming work?

Buy Now, Watch Now: for $19.95 the video appears in your AFM Videos account right away and streams on any device, unlimited views, permanently yours. It also comes with the 1-Year All Access membership at $99/year.

Should I watch the misdirection video first?

It helps. Woods presents the misdirection series as the backbone of the I and the option as the key complementary sequence, so the two sessions together show how the offense keeps defenses from sitting on either one.
