About this video
Among the 36 school records Blackburn College set with the spread option offense was the first time three backs rushed for more than 100 yards in the same game, and these four plays are a big reason why. Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator Nathan Cochran details the perfect complements to the spread option: the rocket sweep, the trap, the lead dive and the halfback pass. Every one is blocked out against three, four and five-man fronts so nothing in the package gets checked off by a front change.

Frequently asked questions
Which plays are installed?
Four complements to the spread option: the rocket sweep, the trap, the lead dive and the halfback pass, each with blocking assignments against three, four and five-man fronts.
Do these only work in a spread option offense?
No. The rocket sweep, trap and lead dive are blocked with rules that any high school or college run game can adopt, and the halfback pass works anywhere the run action is honest.

Two in particular, the influence block and the veer trap block, along with how Coach Cochran uses the trap to control a 2 or 3 technique defender.
