About this video
Not every program gets to recruit size up front. Mike Lee built "Red's Wing" at Andover High School in Kansas for exactly that reason: a wing-T style offense designed to give an average-sized offensive lineman the best possible angle on a bigger, faster opponent. In this coaching video, the first of a four-part series, Coach Lee lays out the philosophy and the two building blocks of the system - power plays to the right side and counter plays to the left.
What you'll learn
- The basic strategy behind Red's Wing and how it manufactures blocking angles against bigger defensive fronts.
- Base formations, alignments and personnel, and how they are set up to create mismatches and leverage the defense.
- The thinking behind the offense's two concepts: power to the right side, counter to the left side.
- How zone and base blocking rules fold in angle blocking to take advantage of a larger opponent.
- Creating tempo, running the huddle, and using the snap count as a weapon.
Who it's for
High school and youth head coaches and offensive coordinators, especially staffs in wing-T or single-back systems who are usually outsized on the offensive line.

Frequently asked questions
What is Red's Wing?
It is Mike Lee's wing-T based offense, built on two concepts - power to the right side and counter to the left side - with alignments and angle blocking rules chosen so average-sized linemen can handle bigger defenders. This video covers the philosophy, formations, personnel and tempo.
Do I have to run the whole system to use it?
No. Coach Lee makes the point that the concepts drop into an existing offense. High school and youth staffs can take the angle blocking rules and the power-right/counter-left structure without abandoning what they already do.

Which part of the series is this?
This is the opening installment. The other three take the same system into the power game, the counter game and the play-action and quick passing game, so they build directly on what is taught here.
