About this video

Glenn Caruso opens up the planning process behind one of the biggest turnarounds in Division III football, walking coaches through how his University of St. Thomas staff builds a practice plan and a game plan. Coaches get taught schemes and drills, he points out, but almost nobody teaches the logistics of putting all of it on the field in an organized week. This clinic session fills that gap with a detailed, repeatable process for game planning and practice planning.

What you'll learn

  • How to self-scout efficiently and find your own tendencies before an opponent does
  • How to locate defensive tendencies and build calls to attack them
  • A system for watching an opponent's game film with a purpose
  • The six S's of game planning
  • How to maximize the offense by minimizing personnel groupings
  • How to plan practice so that practice actually rehearses the game plan

Who it's for

Head coaches, coordinators and program builders at the high school and college level. If you are the one turning a week of practice into a call sheet, this is your video.

About the coach

Glenn Caruso was named the 29th head coach in the 104-year history of University of St. Thomas (MN) football, taking over a team that had finished 2-8 and going 7-3 in his first season, followed by 11-2, 12-1 and 13-1 campaigns. That four-year run moved the Tommies from No. 206 in the national rankings to No. 3, the biggest turnaround in Division III football.

Runtime: about 78 minutes.
