About this video

Jupiter Christian (FL) head coach Bill Powers continues the detail work on his 3-3-5 Stack & Swarm defense, this time behind the front. He presents the five coverages he has used over four seasons of running the scheme, all of them simple to teach and all of them effective for the same reason: they look identical before the snap, which leaves a quarterback with very little to read while he is at the line of scrimmage.

What you'll learn

  • The five coverages Coach Powers plays behind the 3-3-5 Stack & Swarm and the personnel each one requires
  • Coverage out of the base defense and how it ties to the stack front
  • The Double Twins coverage adjustment
  • Cover 3 zone from the 3-3-5, with landmarks and responsibilities
  • Double Twins Cover 3 and the checks that come with it
  • Cover 2 zone and when to get into it
  • How to disguise, so every call shows the offense the same pre-snap picture
  • Why simple-to-teach coverages hold up better than complicated ones on Friday night

Who it's for

For high school defensive coordinators, secondary coaches and head coaches running the 3-3-5 or installing it. Coaches in other odd fronts can take the disguise principle and the zone rules.

About the coach

Bill Powers was the head coach at Jupiter Christian High School in Florida, where his 3-3-5 Stack & Swarm defense helped produce a 47-5 record over four years along with back-to-back state championships.

Extensive game film analysis backs up every coverage. This session follows Coach Powers's presentation on the 3-3-5 Stack & Swarm front.

Frequently asked questions

Which coverages does Coach Powers show?

Five: the base defense coverage, Double Twins, Cover 3 zone, Double Twins Cover 3 and Cover 2 zone, along with the personnel each one calls for.

Is this useful if I do not play a 3-3 stack?

The calls are built for the 3-3-5, but secondary coaches in any odd front can use the zone rules and, more importantly, the idea of making every coverage look the same before the snap.

What do I get for my money?

For $19.95 you own a streaming video that opens in your AFM Videos account the moment you buy it, plays on any device, and can be watched as often as you like. The $99 1-Year All Access membership streams it together with every other AFM title.

Why do all the coverages look alike?

That is the point of the package. Coach Powers keeps the pre-snap picture identical across all five calls so offenses get difficult pre-snap reads, and he shows the results on game film.
